We have modeled ourselves in ways different from the norm when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibilities. We have adopted particular practices that really work and can be genuinely embraced by the farming communities of our country.
Through the renovation of Kattambuwawa Tank in Kurunegala we have increased the supply of water from 19 acres to 40 acres enabling around 150 families to earn a living through the cultivation of around 100 acres of farmland.
The renovation of the Aluthwawa Tank in Hambanthota was completed in 2 stages the 1st stage being the removal of aquatic plants and the 2nd stage was the removal of the silt. This project enabled us to increase the cultivatable area from 250 acres to 700 acres providing a vital yet scarce resource -water- to the farmers of the area. Thus the tank capacity was increased from 5 Ac ft to 60 Ac. Ft
Through our Anthurium Cultivation Project at the UNESCO village in Kosgoda we hope to provide a means of earning a living for the families in the village who were affected by the tsunami through the export of Anthurium thereby introducing environmentally friendly peaceful living conditions by promoting small-scale business enterprises.
We have also sponsored and assisted in developing a career guidance programme for schoolchildren in the Agriculture sector. This programme was organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and was developed to expose the rural children to the different career opportunities available to them.
Our other charitable endeavors that happen to be doing real good and on a meaningful scale include providing stationary to the students of Polwatta Maha Vidyalaya, Minuwangoda and constructing a playground at a village school in Kurunegala Conducting training workshops for farmers in agro chemicals, animal health products and fertilizer and refurbishing the hospital in Seeduwa, renovating a bus-halt at the Seeduwa junction as well as providing assistance to critically ill patients, widows and unemployed young people.
With each project we undertake we try to make a difference – for us, CSR is who we are and how we operate in the diverse communities we serve.
