Fertilizer for Banana Cultivation  

Banana is highly dependent on nutrients in the soil and both organic and inorganic fertiliser is recommended for high yield.


 
Fertilizer Advantages Fertilizer Application
Organic Fertilizer Organic fertilisers improve the physical and biological properties of soil.
  • Application of approximately two baskets of organic fertiliser along with top soil is necessary prior to filling the planting hole.
  • Two baskets of organic fertiliser should be applied twice a year when using chemical fertiliser. 
Chemical Fertilizer : The following fertiliser mixtures should be applied according to the climatic conditions and the growth stages of the plantation Less ash should be applied when using organic fertiliser. 

Banana Super

This mixture is used for dry zones
  • 450 g of fertiliser should be applied at the distance of 1 foot from the base of the plant when the plant is at the age of 2 months.   
  • Repeat procedure when the plant reaches 4 months. 
  • Thereafter, the mixture should  be applied at a distance of 3 feet from the base of the plant

Guidelines for the Application of Fertiliser for Banana Cultivation

  • Fertiliser should be applied when soil is in moist condition.
  • Fertiliser should be applied after cleaning the land thoroughly.
  • Fertiliser should not be applied during heavy rains and dry seasons.
  • It is important to cover the surface after applying and mixing the fertiliser with the soil.
  • The application of organic fertiliser after the application of chemical fertiliser is advisable. 
  • Be aware of possible attacks by pests.
  • A bush should not exceed 3 plants.
